In December 2021, the Chester Water Department began the required journey toward compliance with the DEP Administrative Consent Order. Following two years expenditure of time & treasure including upgrading SCADA, equipment replacement, Engineering Study, we have achieved a critical milestone. On 13 December, CWD switched water source from Horn Pond in Becket to Austin Brook Reservoir, adjacent to our water treatment plant in Chester.
The initial data returns show substantial improvement in water turbidity. Improved DBP/disinfection by-product data is anticipated, as we test in the first two quarters of 2024.
