Update from the Water Commissioners – September 19, 2024

This morning, Water Treatment Plant Operator Jim Gobeille and Water Commissioners Jim Zimmerman and Bob Daley met with a DEP Environmental Analyst from the DEP Drinking Water Program at the water plant.

Selectman Craig Gauthier, Town Administrator Don Humason, and Plant Operator Isaiah Solitario were also present.

We had a productive discussion, and talked about our request that as part of routine maintenance, we would like to drain Austin Brook Reservoir for inspection and assessment of what will be required to return the Reservoir to full operation as a water source option.

While not definite, our water turbidity levels are trending in the right direction and we are hopeful DEP will allow us to conduct the required bacteria sampling next week, leading to rescinding the Boil Water Order.

In the meantime, please continue consuming town-provided bottled water and be observant for water leaks. A resident made us aware this week of a substantial water loss on William Street, which is now shut off awaiting repair.

We suspect there are additional leaks in our water distribution system and ask that if you see something…please say something. Call Bob at 413-354-6365, Jim at 413-207-2501, or Don at 413-354-7760.

We thank you for your patience over this long and grueling process. We are hopeful that the end may be in sight.
