Positive Police Presence Program Book Drive

WHEN: January 27th-February 14th
WHERE: Drop boxes are available in the lobby of Chester Elementary School & Chester Town Hall. Students may also bring in books to school to put in drop box. I can also be contacted for pickup of books if needed.
WHAT: New or gently used books for grades K-5.

The need is simple: As part of the Chester Recreation Committee, I’m expanding the idea of a positive police presence at the school. 9 times out of 10 the interaction law enforcement has with the public may be negative (for example, traffic stop, criminal offense, etc.). The town and I are trying to change that. I will be expanding on the positive impact that is currently being done by town officers.

Starting in February, there will be monthly events for students involving officers. Grades K-2 will be having storytime with an officer! This is where the book drive comes in. Each student will receive a book from the officer. Grades 3-5 will be having an ice cream party with Chief Ilnicky! I’m also hoping to add future events with the Massachusetts State Police, and K9 demonstrations for all students.
