APPLICATIONS CLOSED – Job Opening: Part-Time Accountant

The Town of Chester is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of Town Accountant. The Town Accountant performs highly responsible professional, administrative, and supervisory accounting work in maintaining the financial records and fiscal integrity of the Town. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining the Town’s General Ledger; processing accounts payable and payroll; monitoring and reconciling expenditures against budgetary appropriations; classifying revenues; and preparing a variety of detailed financial reports in accordance with applicable local, state (MGL Chapter 41, Sections 50–61), and federal laws and regulations. Additional duties include maintaining and auditing departmental financial records, submitting required annual reports to the Commonwealth, and preparing comprehensive reports of all Town receipts and expenditures for the preceding fiscal year.

Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, Finance, or a closely related field, and 5 to 7 years of related experience. Or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. This is a 24-hour per-week position with a salary range of $33,280-$37,000 DOQ.

The successful applicant must be able to work independently to ensure that time-sensitive projects are completed. Knowledge of the laws and methods pertaining to municipal finance and accounting as well as knowledge of the UMAS accounting system is required. The selected candidate must have strong record-keeping skills and be a strong communicator.
